Tennessee College of Applied Technology/Nissan Training Center
Education meets practice at the TCAT/Nissan Training Facility, a partnership between the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) and Nissan North America, Inc. The state-of-the-art facility contains an array of specialized training areas and classrooms designed to accommodate future technology and industry needs. High-technology labs include robotics, mechatronics, welding, painting, and machine tool technology programs. Classrooms are versatile, with an emphasis on rapidly developing technologies. Double-height lab spaces are organized along the building’s east-west axis and feature an open observation mezzanine that provides views into the labs below. Designed to meet the State of Tennessee Sustainability Guidelines, the full-height glass and exterior shading devices along the south facade limit the need for overhead lighting. Classrooms and administrative functions organized along the building’s north-south axis intersect the lab volume to form a public atrium and auditorium space. Metal, glass and steel coupled with the striking roof profile reflects the programs functioning inside the structure.
