Posing a Paint Challenge

Tuck-Hinton had the pleasure of volunteering with Civic Design Center at Rose Park Middle School to help aid in the effort of placemaking through painting a mural. We were introduced to the kids and were tasked with teaching the kids what design thinking is, and start drawing and rendering potential ideas. We also gave quick speeches on what it means to be an architect/ designer and how Tuck-Hinton, in small and large scales, have impacted Nashville. At the end there were a few work days where we helped the kids paint and organize the final product. It was a fantastic experience working with the children of Rose Park, and we are extremely thankful for Civic Design Center to include us.

The project directive for the students was to first identify specific issues that their school campus encounters when it comes to walking, biking, and transit. We then asked them to consider ways that painting on the streets and sidewalks could improve the experience for youth using those forms of sustainable transportation.
